Commission Information

Some places stay with you: the lake where your family spent summers, the view from the porch, a field you walked every evening for years. A commissioned painting can hold that place in the same light that made it matter.

I paint commissions the same way I paint my original work: from photographs of the place, built slowly in thin, transparent glazes of oil until the color carries its own glow. The result is an original Luminous Landscape, made for you and for the space where it will hang.

How it works

  1. Consultation. We talk about the place, what it means to you, and where the painting will live. The consultation is free.
  2. Photographs and design. You share photos of the place, and I plan a composition, size, and palette. You approve the design before I begin painting.
  3. Painting. I build the painting in layers over several weeks and share progress along the way.
  4. Delivery. The finished painting arrives ready to hang.

Reference photos

Strong reference photos make a stronger painting. Please share:

  • Several photos of the place taken at different times of day or in different seasons — the more options, the better.
  • Photos taken in natural light rather than harsh midday sun; golden-hour and overcast light tend to photograph beautifully.
  • Any details that matter to you — a particular tree, a reflection, a path — so I can make sure they find their way into the composition.
  • A note about the mood or feeling you want the painting to carry.

Phone photos are fine. I will let you know if I need anything additional after reviewing what you send.

Timeline

Commissions are completed within week up to several months depending on complexity of the approved design and deposit. Timing depends on size, complexity, and my current schedule. I will confirm the estimated completion window when we begin. If you have a gift deadline or event date, please mention it early so we can plan accordingly.

Deposit and payment

A deposit of 25% is due before painting begins. The remaining balance is due before the painting ships or is picked up. I accept credit card, checks, . Deposits are non-refundable once painting has begun but are put forward to the total.

Design approval

Before I begin painting, I will share a composition plan — size, orientation, and the focal elements I intend to include. You will have the opportunity to ask questions or request adjustments at this stage. Once you approve the design and the deposit is received, I begin painting.

Revisions

Because each painting is built in layers of oil over time, changes after painting begins are limited. I include one round of minor adjustments before the painting is varnished and finished. Major compositional changes requested after painting has begun may require an additional fee. The best way to avoid surprises is a clear conversation at the design-approval stage — I encourage you to ask as many questions as you need before we begin.

Cancellations

If you need to cancel after painting has begun, the deposit is non-refundable. If you cancel before painting begins, please contact me and we will work something out on a case-by-case basis.

After your inquiry — what happens next

  1. I will reply within a day or two, to schedule a brief consultation by phone, video, or email — whichever you prefer.
  2. After the consultation, I will send a proposal with sizing options and pricing.
  3. Once you choose a size and we agree on the design direction, I will send a commission agreement and deposit invoice.
  4. Painting begins when the agreement is signed and the deposit is received.

Size and pricing

Pricing is comparable to my original paintings and depends on size and complexity. Prices start at $2000.00
